Major League Baseball 2013: World Series Futures Odds

Major League Baseball spring training is underway in Florida and Arizona. All 30 teams have reported, and are preparing for the upcoming 162-game campaign that lasts from April through September. Last year’s MLB World Series Champions, the damned San Francisco Giants, and among the favorites to win the World Series in 2013.

My pick — like every year — is that my beloved Cincinnati Reds will go all the way.

Oddsmakers like Bovada, OddsMaker, and JustBet, are all over the board with their odds to win the 2013 MLB World Series and the pennants. For example, a $100 wager on the Cincinnati Reds to win the World Series pays twice as much at OddsMaker.com ($1500) than it does at JustBet.com ($750). 2012 MLB Baseball – 2nd Half Betting Thoughts

In the National League, the surprising Pirates will try to hold their lead over the Reds, and the World Series Champions Phillies will try to right their sinking ship.   • I’ll be looking to bet against the Phillies; they keep losing and losing, yet they were consistently favored, especially leading up to the All-Star break.
  • I’ll also be looking to bet against the Pirates; they have been over-achieving all year, and they are due to come back to earth.
  • Seattle and Houston are miserable teams, and should be heavy dogs against top-tier teams. Look for value bets on them with the right matchups.

Obama OK’s online gambling in states

For once, online gamblers have some good news from the United States Department of Justice.

Essentially, the DOJ has clarified that the Wire Act of 1961 applies to wagers placed on ‘a sporting event or contest’ only; it would not, according to the ruling, apply to the selling of ‘lottery tickets online to in-state adults’. While few online gamblers want to buy lottery tickets online, the principles that the DOJ cited in this ruling are equally applicable to in-state online poker, and should help rapidly move several states toward online poker regulation.
