UFC 71: Liddell the Heavy Favorite

If you have not watched an Ultimate Fighting Championship match, you NEED to. In my opinion, this is one of the most engaging, exciting, and compelling sports to come along in the last 20 years.

Fight fans are gearing up for what should be an epic bout when Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell battles Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in an Ultimate Fighting Light Heavyweight Championship event Saturday in Las Vegas. Liddell is anywhere from a -200 to a -170 favorite in Saturday’s matchup.

You can wager on the bout at any number of sportsbooks. In addition to Intertops.com, USD Bet is another option that is a good choice for fans from around the globe.

UFC:71 is a rematch of a 2003 fight – Pride: Final Conflict – in Japan, in which Jackson defeated Liddell by TKO. That fight was Liddell’s last loss.

Not News – Cincinnati Reds Slumping

The time NOT to be at a live sportsbook is when your team is slumping. Allow me to explain where this is coming from….

Earlier this month, I sold my house and left the Bellevue, WA area after two years. On the day the house closed, I headed for South Lake Tahoe, CA where I’d spent many a long weekend. They have casinos and sportsbooks right across the state line in Stateline, NV. While I was there, my favorite team — the Cincinnati Reds — played a total of six games. They lost five of them – and I lost each and every one for $200 each. The one game they did win was in the morning, and I’d overslept and was not able to get a bet down on that game.

There. I feel better.

You can make a bet on the Reds — or against the Reds if you have any sense — at any one of a number of online sportsbooks. I personally recommend Intertops, which is currently giving away to new customers a $20 free bet after making your first $20 bet. You can also try USDBET.com, which is currently running a 100% match up to $200 for new members.

Citadel Commerce provides payment processing solutions and other related services to online merchants. Earlier this week, they announced that US $9.25M of their reserve funds had been seized by the United States Department of Justice. Citadel states in the press release that they are “continuing to work with the DoJ through its legal counsel to resolve the situation.”

There was no word on the US DOJ site with any additional information about the seizure.

Poker Host’s 5 WSOP Seats

Starting June 18th, Poker Host is running their Caveman promotion in which they are giving away 5 WSOP seats. (Actually, they are giving away 5 prize packages worth $12K, but you can use it for the $10K entry fee to the WSOP and $2K in travel expenses.)

Poker Host has one of the best initial deposit bonuses in the industry at 100% up to $2000. In addition, they offer this bonus on your second deposit as well, so if you already have an account and have only made one deposit, you can claim this bonus and top off your account as you go for one of these WSOP prize packages.

They claim to have “the highest success rate of credit card deposits in the industry”, but there is no way that I can see to verify their claim.

Update: Here is the transcript of a chat that I just had with the good folks at Poker Host. They clarified their claim about credit card deposits.

HR 2046

On Thursday, April 26, Rep. Barney Frank introduced HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007. HR 2046 will lift the prohibition on playing poker online.

Representative Frank is the Chairman of the important House Financial Services Committee. And he understands the injustice that we have suffered. When he introduced the bill, he told reporters that “The existing legislation is an inappropriate interference on the personal freedom of Americans and this interference should be undone”.

Voice your support using this quick and easy form to email your representative… it took me about 2 minutes to complete!

Then, stick it to the man and play online poker at any one of the many sites that continue to accept US players! [Note: After clicking the link, you’ll get the most accurate list if you select your state using the control on the left center of the screen.]

Internet Gambling Study Act

Shelly Berkely (D) from Nevada on Friday introduced in the U.S. Congress the Internet Gambling Study Act. This bill is intended to:

provide for a study by the National Academy of Sciences to identify the proper response of the United States to the growth of Internet gambling

Horray!

If passed, the study would last a year and may provide a blueprint for how Internet gambling could be regulated in the United States. It is possible — in my opinion — that the passage of this bill would at least delay the enforcement of the UIGEA while the study is conducted.

The bill has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
